The White Whale allows through water ultrasonic communication between a dive supervisor and divers in the water.  It can communicate with up to 8 divers at distances of up to 1km, each of which with a diver comms unit (IMIL-WWDC).

The device offers 8 channels which include standard frequency bands compatible with most third party underwater comms, allowing legacy integration as well as a “listen in” capability.

The built in Lithium Iron Phosphate battery is a safe lithium technology that meets ATEX safety standards, allowing use in explosive and combustible environments.  The batteries operate at subzero temperatures and provide more than 1000 charge-discharge cycles.

The set is supplied with an adapter for connecting headphones with a 3.5mm jack and a waterproof storage bag, a press to talk microphone and the hydroacoustic sounder.

Actual distances depend on environment: thermoclines, saloclines, shallow water and obstacles can increase or decrease the effective range.  A distance of 1km or more is typical in open-bay sea conditions.
