OSEL QuickConnect Locking (OSEL QC)

Harking back to the era of the hi-end Parker zero face wet-mateable quick connects (QCs) fitted to the Cis-Lunar Mk5p offboard gas switchblock. Open Safety is pleased to offer - after an extensive period of testing - Open Safety branded SS316 zero face QC fittings for offboard Make Up Gas and offboard OC Bail Out Gas applications.

Whilst BCD QC style fittings and Swagelok QC-6 fittings are widely used by some divers for QC to offboard cylinders, neither met our requirements for gas flow or safety; in order to meet CE certification purposes for offboard gas supply, when submerged.

Fitted with zero face surfaces: Open Safety QCs can be connected and disconnected underwater – under pressure - without passing a slug of water through the gas injection path into the rebreather.

Usage Instructions:

1. The default is for the Male end to be on the unit, switch block or the divers body and the Female end on the offboard gas supply loose whip.
2. To disconnect the connectors, align the slot in the female connector with the ball on the connector body, and pull back.
3. To lock the connector, rotate the knurled sleeve such that the ball and slot do not align.
4. The locking mechanism prevents accidental disconnection as a safety feature when bailing out and for Commercial diving applications, but does not hinder the connection of the male and female halves.
5. The connectors have a standard 3/8” UNF thread and O-ring, compatible with most low pressure SCUBA hose connections and do not require thread re-machining for SCUBA use or require the use of adapters that may introduce additional failure points.
6. If the connector has been in storage a long time, then it may need to be connected and disconnected a few times to reseat the O-rings that seal – this can be done in the water or out of the water.
7. If the O-rings are not seated then it can take a second or two before the gas flow is shut off. These QC connectors are not a user serviceable item and are regarded as a consumable for user safety and service purposes.

Open Safety recommend that this Open Safety QC connection be direct to the ALVBOV or via an LP whip to the onboard Make Up Gas Apollo A320 1st stage; when not connected to one of our rebreather specific switch blocks. An offboard cold-water suitable CE and NORSOK standard switch block for ALVBOV OC bailout use to 350m with our back mounted rebreathers, in conjunction with Open Safety QC connectors, is available for military sale.

Both Open Safety QC connectors and Open Safety offboard switch block are designed to be incorporated into the offboard gas path of any make of rebreather. In order to offer improved Functional Safety to a wider audience; however, without use of an Open Safety ALVBOV, Open Safety QC connectors are not rated for OC bailout use past the OEM rated OC usage depth for CE certification as documented by the individual BOV OEM. In the common instance, where an OEM has neglected to inform users of the rated OC bailout depth of their specific BOV, Open Safety QC connectors can still be safely used for offboard OXYGEN and Make Up Gas supply.

For an additional cost these QC connectors are available with custom length Non-Mag LP hoses terminated in 3/8” UNF thread and or our custom Non-Mag ALVBOV angle 7/16” fitting.
